Ruth Evelyn Decker, age 86, of Dixon, formerly of Elburn, passed away quietly into the arms of her Savior, surrounded by the love of her family, Wednesday, January 3, 2018. She was born on April 30, 1931 in Aledo, IL, to the proud parents, Joe and Margaret (Howie) Palmer. Ruth grew up in Aledo and attended local schools, graduating at the top of her class at Aledo High School. Ruth met the love of her life in the halls of her high school and all it took was a double date with Norman A. Decker to seal the deal. They each found the missing pieces of themselves in each other and walked down the aisle hand-in-hand on August 22, 1949. They began their new life together on the family farm but moved to Elburn a few years later. Maja Christensen, age 76, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Saturday evening, December 30, 2017, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. Maja von Brevern was born September 28, 1941 in then German-controlled Wreshen, Poland, to Hella and Carl Felix (aka Kitty) von Brevern. She was the third of four surviving children. During WWII (1939-1945), German-controlled Poland was invaded by the Russia and Maja’s family joined the throngs of people trying to escape during the brutal winter. During the trek, the family lost both her grandmother and younger sister Astrid - unable to stop for a mourning or proper burial. Once safely in Germany, the family resided in a refugee camp where they received donations to furnish a temporary home and eventually settled in Worms. After long battle with the autoimmune deficiency disease, MDS, Mary is now free from the chains that broke her body, but never touched her determined spirit.
