Beverly Ann Gillett, age 79, of Elburn, went to Heaven on Friday, July 28, 2017, after passing away peacefully at Oak Crest Retirement Center, where she lived in recent years. She was born on March 19, 1938 in Aledo, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Mildred (Bonynge) Nelson. Bev grew up in Aledo, IL and attended Aledo High School. She enjoyed playing the flute in the high school band and later singing in the church choir. She continued her education for two years at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. On April 12, 1959 Beverly and James Gillett were united in marriage and made their home in Aledo. A few years later they moved to Taylor Ridge, IL. In 1968, they moved to Elburn where Jim became the manager of the Elburn Coop. They had two children, Jeffrey and Julie. Bev enjoyed sewing and was well known for her craft. Together, Bev and Julie made Julie’s wedding dress, and Bev made countless bridesmaid and flower girl dresses over the years. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Bev was a member of the Delnor-Community Hospital Auxiliary and was president for one year in the 70’s. She was part of the Kane County Extension and in the early 90’s was named “Homemaker of the Year”. She was also involved in 4H as a sewing and food judge. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Elburn helping with luncheons and making pies for the food tent at Elburn Days. She was an excellent cook and was always making food for family gatherings and events. She is survived by two brothers: Ed and Rich (Sandy) Nelson; one sister, Nancy (Ron) Wartick; her husband, Jim Gillett; her daughter, Julie (Ed) Stuehm; her daughter-in-law Denise Gillett-Parchert and three grandchildren: Sara (Matthew) Amato, Laura Stuehm, and J.
