Sandra Ann Smid passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 25, 2022.

Sandy was born in Aurora, IL on September 3, 1952 to proud parents, Lynn and Mary Howard, and joined big sister Carol Jean. Sandy and her family lived in the small farming community of Kaneville, IL, surrounded by extended family members and cousins. Her little brother John joined the family several years later, in the fall of 1965. Sandy enjoyed family reunions out at Needham’s Woods, playing with cousins and exploring the Needham Blacksmith shop. Sandy loved nature, especially hummingbirds and flowers, and that would continue into her adult life. She loved to laugh and share good times with family and friends.

Sandy spread her wings and left the nest in 1970. Her travels took her to Florida, and along her journey, she was graced with two beautiful daughters, Kelly, in 1971, and a short while later, Michelle in 1974. Life takes different paths, and Sandy returns to Illinois. Sandy met the love of her life, Robert Smid, in 1974, and with their marriage, added her daughter, Tracy, to her small family. In 1978 their son, Jason, completed their family.

Bob was an active member of the US Navy, and this took the family from Illinois to New Orleans and Virginia for several years, where Sandy took her post as a Navy Wife very seriously. For several years, she mentored younger wives and families through the challenge of life while their significant other was away serving the country.

In later years, after Bob retired from the navy, Sandy and Bob moved a few times. Their travels took them to North Carolina, Indiana and finally Florida. Along their path, Sandy owned a flower shop, and loved creating beautiful centerpieces for her customers. Also during their travels, Sandy and Bob welcomed their grandchildren. Kelly had two boys (Zachary and Cody Louk), Michelle had two boys(William and Jacob Mills ), Tracy had two boys (Michael Smid and Timothy Kime) and Jason had two boys (Casey and Robbie Smid). The multitude of grandsons tickled Sandy’s funny bone. Through the years, Sandy watched her family grow and multiply. Adding three great-grandsons and most recently, a great-granddaughter.

In later years, Sandy’s health slowed her active life down, but it never stopped her. Her laugh and sense of humor got her through some of the hard times, and you could always find Sandy with a cup of coffee and enjoying nature, especially hummingbirds and other various animals.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Robert.; 4 children: Kelly Louk, Tracy (Jim) Kime, Michelle (Bruce) Keyston, and Jason (Tamie Palmer) Smid; 8 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; two siblings: Carol (William) Hare, and John (Danielle) Howard; one niece, Jacki (Isaac) Daniel; one nephew, Jonathan Howard; many great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends she called family through the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lynn and Mary Howard.

In lieu of a service and flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the SPCA in her honor, or any bird sanctuary.
