Charles Franzke

CHARLES E. FRANZKE, age 67 of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away peacefully at Delnor Hospital, Friday, February 13, 2004. Having battled through four years of illness, he gradually surrendered life and breath. His beloved wife, Janene, together with their family, walked faithfully beside Charles through the Valley of the Shadow They rejoice together in his peace and claim for Eternity, the promise that love never dies. BORN / CHILDHOOD / EDUCATIONCharles was born December 8, 1936 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles Leo and Anna (Miller) Franzke. He attended the Broadview Academy in LaFox, IL and following graduation, studied electronics at the Devry Institute, Chicago.MARRIEDOn December 27, 1981, he was united in marriage to Janene Jenkins in Portland, OR. They settled in Sugar Grove, IL where they made their home for thirty-five years.EMPLOYMENTCharles was employed at Bell Labs with AT&T and worked the world over as an installer. MILITARY — Etc.He served his country in the Army through the early sixties and received the White Coat Medal of Honor for his part in accepting toxic doses of germ warfare as part of medical research that resulted in antidotes used to save others. His selflessness was characteristic of both his God-given nature and his life-long faith as a Seventh Day Adventist. In the service of his church as well as his country, Charles was one of a rare breed of men who are gifted and great but serve silently behind the scenes for good of all. MEMBERSHIPIn his free time, Charles loved model trains and had built an extensive track system in his basement. Thanks to a life-long friend, Charles’ trains continue as he does, as part of a another railroad in another realm. SURVIVORSHe is survived by his wife, Janene,two daughters: Carrie French of Sugar Grove, ILNaylene (Rich) Krafthefer of Chicago, IL andone son Craig Kinney, also of Sugar Groveseven grandchildren:Daniel and Aaron KraftheferAngela, Rose, Robert and Sean French and Richard Reynolds.one sister, Carol Mayer of Ocala, FL.PRECEDEDHe is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Milton and Arnold FranzkeMEMORIALSA memorial has been established in the name of Charles Franzke. VISITATION and FUNERAL SERVICESVisitation and funeral services will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 37W219 Mooseheart Rd., Aurora, Sunday from 3-5:30pm. Funeral services will follow at 6pm. The Rev. Ken Veal will officiate
