NAME Florence M. Verhaeghe, age 85, of St. Charles, passed away at her home surrounded by the love of her son on Friday, January 26, 2007. BORN: She was born May 25, 1921 the daughter of Henry and Nellie Gaweka in Batavia, IL. EARLY YEARS :Florence grew up in Batavia and attended local schools and graduated from Batavia High School. Following graduation she worked nights as a telephone operator for over twenty years at Illinois Bell in Geneva. MARRIAGE: Cupid struck early when she met Julian "Joe" Verhaeghe. Following a whirlwind courtship they were united in marriage on September 16, 1939 at the Baptist church in Batavia. They began their new life together farming on Burlington Rd until the early sixties when Joe started his own company, Joe Verhaeghe Fence Company. OCCUPATION / WORK HISTORY: Florence worked the books while Joe continued to build the business until his passing in 1985. Their son Larry then took the reigns and she continued to share the load until her retirement 1991. As time went on she continually battled with her health and was dependant on the loving care of her son Larry who stood by her side as her care giver for over twenty years. In the end her spirit was willing but her body was weak as she answered the call of her savior and will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. MEMBERSHIPS: She was a faithful member of Seventh day Adventist Church in North Aurora for over 63 years. LIFE NOTES: Life on the farm was hard work as Florence was the all around farm wife, she did the cooking, sewing,and housekeeping, but also helped bail hay, plow the fields and milk and feed the cows. All that exercise made her strong in body and spirit. Although she was working days and nights, Florence still found time for fun playing the organ and accordion. She also spent hours roller skating in Plainfield and Aurora with her friends and family.SURVIVORS: She now leaves her son Larry Verhaeghe of St. Charles;One daughter, Carol Drees;Three grandchildren, Billy, Kenny, and Denise;One sister Helen Moser of Aurora and a family of friends. PRECEDED: She now joins her husband Joe, her parents, andTwo sisters, Zora Brun and Ruth Nelson who preceded her in death;MEMORIAL A memorial has been established in her name. Friends may call on Sunday Feb. 4, 2007 from 1-2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Seventh day Adventist Church on the corner of Mooseheart and Randall Rd. in North Aurora. Pastor Kenneth Veal, pastor of the church, will officiate

A Public interment service will be held at 1:00PM Monday, Feb 5. 2007 at River Hills Cemetery Chapel.
