Mark Einwich, age 55, of St. Charles, IL, formerly of the Burlington and Elgin areas, IL, passed away quietly into Heaven, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.  

He was born January 31, 1968, in Elgin, IL, to proud and loving parents, Otto and Judy Einwich.

Mark grew up in Elgin and attended local schools. He graduated from Burlington Central High School with the class of 1986. Before receiving his diploma, Mark made sure to make a name for himself on the football team as it’s center. Eventually he became the center of attention as the announcer for the many teams and victories that came after for over 30 years.

Mark continued his education at Elgin Community College where he received an associate degree with honors. Illinois Fire Service Institute was his next stop before attending National Fire Academy.

He was united in marriage to Angela Koukol and was blessed with a blended family of six children who adored him to no end.

Mark began a career in fire service at the Pingree Grove Fire Department. Later he volunteered for the Burlington Department before becoming a dispatcher for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. He extended his time in blue as an Elburn policeman before returning home to fire service, finding a family at the Geneva Fire Department for the next 30 years, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief, before retiring in November of 2022. Following retirement, Mark continued on with the Burlington Fire Department as Deputy Chief.  Declining health weakened his body, but never his spirit. Mark fought with all that he had and loved with all of his heart, but his memory remains with the brothers and sisters dedicating their lives to the protection of their friends, neighbors and community.

Mark belonged to Kane County 4-H as his children grew up, guiding not only his children but all those who participated.

Mark was always known to share his wisdom, especially, “Work smarter not harder.”. Even as a kid, he played with fire trucks and as time went on, the trucks just became bigger before he was riding in the real thing. He coached baseball and was assistant coach of several basketball and football teams, leading by example and encouraging how to play the “right way”. Mark spent his life in service of others, and never hesitated to put anything on the line, including his life, for his fellow man. His loss is tragic and the void he leaves will never be filled, but in time our memories will form around his absence and echo throughout the rest of our lives.

He now leaves his parents, Otto Jr. and Judy Einwich; his wife Angie, six children: Carolyn Thompson, (Jeff Barnes) Liz (Jordan) Stallman, Madison (Tim Laird) Einwich, Rhett Einwich, Caden Einwich and Wyatt Einwich; five grandchildren: Tahlia, Charlotte, Kayce, Elena and Riley; several aunts, cousins and a countryside of friends. 

He joins his maternal grandparents, Robert and Leona Shrader and his paternal grandparents, Otto Sr. and Margaret Einwich.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Burlington Central High School, 44W625 Plato Rd., Burlington, in the gym where he spent so many years honoring thousands of players. Those attending are encouraged to use door 8 for general parking or door 14 for senior and handicapped parking. A funeral to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 25, also in the gym. Private family burial will follow cremation at a later date.

Mark requested that no flowers be sent and instead to make donations to the Burlington Firefighter Association, 154 South St., Burlington, IL 60109, the Burlington Central Booster Club, 44W625 Plato Rd., Burlington, IL 60109 or Budda’s Brotherhood Foundation, a charity that helps firefighter who are fighting cancer, www.buddabrotherhood.org. A funeral to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 25, also in the gym. Private family burial will follow cremation at a later date.
