Life Story and Service Details For

Robert “Bob” William Smid

Robert “Bob” William Smid passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 6th, 2023.

Bob was born in Chicago, IL on March 1, 1950 first born to proud parents, Gerad and Margaret Smid. Bob lived near Chicago for a few years as the family grew and they relocated to the Dundee/Carpentersville area. Bob was athletic and played football and basketball throughout his school years. Once he graduated he joined the US Navy and moved to California and had his first born Tracy in 1973. Life takes different paths, and Bob returned to Illinois. Bob met the love of his life, Sandy Howard (Smid), in 1974, and with their marriage, added two daughters, Kelly and Michelle to his small family. In 1978 added their son, Jason, which completed their family.

Bob was an active member of the US Navy, and this took the family from Illinois to New Orleans and Virginia for several years. Once Bob retired from the Navy, Sandy and him moved to Kentucky to start his career at a Steel mill. He then continued this in Indiana and North Carolina. His career came to an end from health problems and Sandy and him moved to Florida for retirement.

Bob had a passion for reading (Mr speed reader) and building massive train displays. He was full of spirit and always was full of knowledge and stories that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Over the years Bob and Sandy welcomed their grandchildren. Kelly had two boys (Zachary and Cody Louk), Tracy had two boys (Michael Smid and Timothy Kime) Michelle had two boys(William and Jacob Mills ) and Jason had two boys (Casey and Robbie Smid). The multitude of grandsons made Bob the best grandpa ever. Through the years, Bob watched his family grow and multiply, adding three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

In later years, Bob’s health tried to slow down his active life down, but it never stopped him. His wittiness and strength got him through some of the hard times, and you could always find Bob with a cup of coffee, reading a book, or binging out to the history channel.

Bob is survived by his 4 children: Kelly Louk, Tracy (Jim) Kime, Michelle (Bruce) Keyston, and Jason (Tamie Palmer) Smid; 8 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; five siblings: Jerry (Bonnie), Jan, George (Julie), Dede (Mike), and Ray (Tammy).

He is preceded in death by his wife Sandy, parents Gerad and Margaret Smid, sister Susan and other family members and friends.
